Book Review: A Single Girl's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse by JT Clay

A Single Girl's Guide to the Zombie ApocalypseA Single Girl's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse by JT Clay
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Q is a training kindergarten teacher… she is also preparing for the zombie apocalypse, teaches martial arts, and her best friend is 6 years old (and far more sensible than she Q). Q sees the guys of her dreams and then ‘stalks’ him so they can get together. Well, her boy-to-be is vegan and into peace and everything. And Q is into … zombies, fighting and not understanding social interactions.

I had to really think about this book. It is horrible or just misunderstood? I am leaning toward horrible.

The main character is … strange. She is weird and finds it hard to connect to people. She believes in the zombie apocalypse and has been diligently preparing for when (not if) the day comes. Aren’t we all? At the beginning I had no idea what was going on. Were they living in a post-zombie world? In a pre-zombie world? 30 or so per cent into the story I started questioning whether there were going to be ANY zombies at all.

The beginning is very sluggish and hard to get into. It gets better, once the zombies come and Q starts interacting with people. She is an off-beat character to the extreme and social interactions are hard for her. Her filter is permanently off and she sounds like a psychopath (which she acknowledges).

To read or not to read? I don’t regret reading it but, I could probably have saved myself a lot of frustration if I looked at the wall for a few hours. The writing and the pacing are pretty bad, so take that into account.
