Book Review: The Devil's in the Details by Kimberly Raye

The Devil's in the DetailsThe Devil's in the Details by Kimberly Raye
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Jess (or Jezebel) is a succubus and the daughter of the devil. Literally. The devil is a woman in this book. She has formed a wedding planning company. Her family thinks is because that way she can seduce the groom, the groomsman and wreak havoc. But Jess is a true romantic and she is trying to give up her demon ways and is looking for true love. But, her wedding planning business and the family business meet when her mother tells her that she is getting married and Jess must plan the wedding. Complicating matters is a sexy demon hunter, Cutter, who she is impossibly attracted to, is gunning for her mother. Oh, and everyone else seems to be gunning for Jess in hopes of preventing that wedding. What is a succubus to do?

This book was entertaining albeit largely implausible (not because of the subject matter). There are just too many plot holes (and too much extraneous world building and characters that oculd have been done without). There is inta-love in the extreme. Cutter and Jess barely interact and suddenly they are all dark and stormy for each other. The subject matter in this book necessitated a lot of world building that sometimes contradicted itself. There are way too many characters, and I often found myself looking back to see who was doing what. The author seemed hellbent (haha pun intended) on adding every hell-related character there has been, creating her own mythology and then still trying to fit it into current hell mythology.

I enjoyed the book for what it was. A quick read but largely unforgettable. This review was written 2 weeks after reading the book and I had to look up the name of the guy (Cutter). It was funny, sometimes not, and had easy prose for a quick read. I am undecided as to whether I will be reading the next in the series.
