Book Review: The Siren by Tiffany Reisz

The Siren (The Original Sinners, #1)The Siren by Tiffany Reisz
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I chose this book on a whim after reading the good reviews it had. I am so glad that I did. I was quite impressed by the depth of this book, its characters.

First thing, this is not an erotica book so much as a book about an erotica writer, her editor and the people in their world. Nora Sutherlin is an erotica writer trying to write her breakout novel. This is a more serious and intimate book than what she has written before. Zach Easton, begrudgingly, becomes her editor and is surprised to find such depth in her book. Wesley is her intern. Soren is...Nora's everything. These are simple words to describe the deep relationships between these characters. But, I don't really want to say anymore as I do not want to give any spoilers.

The book is a welcome surprise in both plot and character development. The last such book I read was  Fifty Shades of Grey and that is, by far, one of the worst books I have read. This is nothing like that. The writer creates complex and intriguing characters that jump out of the page. The plot is interesting but, not its best quality. The pacing of this book is ...obsessive. I had to keep going. Suddenly, I realized I had read 100 pages in a sitting.

I was so engaged with the characters, I started to care. I cared about Nora's choices and her pain. I rooted for other characters so deeply, I was heartbroken. There characters were not lovable or endearing. they were real. This is a good read. And now, after reading the description of the other books, i can't help but fall into the rabbit hole that this series promises to be.
