Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Unearthly is the story of Clara, a teenage girl that is far from normal. She is quarter angel and she has a purpose on this earth. Her purpose uproots her and her family from their life in California all the way to Wyoming where she sets about pursuing the clues her visions give her. Her visions revolves around a boy, Christian, and a forest fire. But, she also feels strangely attracted to this boy, too bad he has a girlfriend. She is also drawn to another boy which confuses her and her mission.
As Clara wades through her life at a new school, new friends and a normal teenage life, she struggles to decipher her purpose and her angelic side.
Although the beginning of the book seemed a bit unfocused, it regains after the first few chapters. From then on, the book is very well written with excellent prose and good editing. The book is long and yet, it goes so quickly in a very satisfying way. The book does not do as good of a job answering all the questions it poses but, it is a trilogy after all. By the end we are definitely left with more questions than answers.
Overall, this is a great book in the YA genre by a new author, Cynthia Hand. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this trilogy. The story is so very compelling and well written and I am anxiously awaiting what comes next.
Oh and...AMAZING cover art.
