Book Review: The Magnificent 12: The Call

The Magnificent 12: The Call

The Magnificent 12: The Call by Michael Grant

Mack MacAvoy is an 'ordinary' boy and pretty avergage, except for his quick thinking and innumerable phobias. If there is a phobia, Mack MacAvoy has it.

One day, a sort of wizard stops time and tells him he is one of the Magnificent Twelve and is destined to stop an ancient evil. He must go find the other 11 children that are part of the Magnificent Twelve. MacAvoy is thrust into adventure and he whines the entire way. Quite funny.

The book jumps between the past (thousands of years ago) and the present to give us some background story. The author does this very well all the while making me want to know more about those very quirky characters from the past.

This is a great book for middle school kids. It is funny and full of odd adventures. The pacing is a bit off but the book is very enjoyable.

This is a really good book.
